New features to explore hydrodynamic simulations and visualise the dynamics of flow velocity
- Nye utgivelser
In Modelspaces, you can now query information about water flow, volume, and depth from your dynamic flood simulations. We have also created a whole new set of visualisation styles to animate the dynamics of velocity.
Modelspaces help store, visualise, and explore hydrodynamic flood simulations. By uploading results into a Modelspace, flood modellers can share each time step of their simulations with planners and stakeholders. Modelspaces make dynamic flood simulations accessible for everyone.
Now, we have made Modelspaces even more powerful. With the profile tool, you can extract detailed information about water flow, volume, and depth. We have also created new ways to visualise the dynamics of flow velocity. And remember to check out the play button on the time slider that turns your Modelspace into an interactive video!
Powerful additions to the profile tool
Using the profile tool, you can now draw a line across simulation results in Modelspaces to get detailed information about flood parameters. This information appears in the profile info box and as graphs, helping you explore how floods evolve over time. If your Modelspace contains several events, all results will be displayed together for easy comparison.
Explore water depth
The maximum water depth along a profile line is displayed over time to help evaluate how long water remains above a critical level. This information can be used, for example, to assess flood damage or to plan flood protection and emergency routes.
Query volumes and flows
From hydrodynamic flux results, you can now get information about the total water flow and volume and see how these change over time and across different events.
Water can flow from either side of the profile line to the other side. We refer to these two flow directions as the forward and the reverse direction. The forward direction is indicated with a small arrow on the profile line. With the profile tool, you can measure the flow and the volume for both directions and even assess net values.
Use this information when dimensioning surface water measures such as basins, culverts, and channels. You can also draw a polyline around a development site to evaluate total water flow and volume out of the area.
Visualise flow velocities
We have added new ways to visualise flow velocity in a Modelspace. These new styles animate particles that move with a speed proportional to water velocity in the simulation. Click on the cogwheel next to the velocity layer to enable these new visualisation styles:
- Animated gradient. Particles are coloured with a dark purple to light orange gradient, representing the absolute velocity. The colour scaling automatically adjusts to match the minimum and maximum velocities visible on the screen. This style is designed to stand out against almost any background.
- Animated white. Particles are semi-transparent, enabling simultaneous viewing of other layers alongside the velocity animation. Choose this style if you need to overlay velocity information with other data.
- Animated particles. This style displays a reduced number of white particle traces. It is especially suitable for overlaying on water depth or flux, allowing you to clearly see the background while analysing flow patterns in detail.
These visualisation styles will give you a feel for the relative velocities in a simulation. By combining different Modelspace layers, you can spot high-flux areas with critical water depths and fast flows.
Turn your Modelspace into an interactive video
With the new play button next to the Modelspace time slider, you can watch your simulation as a video. Turn on the water depth, flux, and velocity layers (or any subset of these), press play, and your simulation starts to play as a video over the stored time steps.
While the video is playing, you can zoom and pan around your Modelspace and interact with the simulation video using all the SCALGO Live tools. Use this feature to explore how water flows on the surface and to perform engaging presentations of your simulations.
