Abstract

Flooding, droughts and decreased biodiversity are some of the challenges currently facing project planning in urban and rural areas. Sustainable methods to manage surface water are urgently needed. Some existing strategies include sponge cities and creating blue-green infrastructure. Detailed elevation data is a key element in terrain-based planning of surface water measures. The interactive, flexible platform SCALGO Live allows for rapid analysis of the basics and allows plans to be shown in visual form, adjusted and communicated to all parties involved. A series of projects have already been carried out successfully in various European countries. SCALGO Live is used by more than 15,000 users. SCALGO Live has also been available in Germany since September 2021. This article describes the methods used and gives examples.
