Ready, set, go - Scalgo is now in the United States
- New releases
From the heights of the Rocky Mountains to the lows of the East Coast shore. From the smallest forest trickle to the great Mississippi River. We have collected the data, crunched the numbers, and now we bring you ready-made surface water analyses for the entire United States.
This is a truly magnificent moment for our mission to help engineers and planners around the world create sustainable blue-green environments with space for water. Scalgo Live for the U.S. is now ready with detailed elevation data and ready-made surface water analyses. Start exploring terrain and surface water characteristics anywhere in the US with just a few clicks!
We are celebrating the launch by joining the ASFPM Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, this week. We look forward to meeting floodplain managers and learning how they work with flood mitigation and climate change adaptation.

The culmination of a journey
Scalgo Live in the U.S. is based on high-resolution elevation data from the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) managed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). This extensive dataset currently covers the entire country with 6 trillion elevation points (raster cells). Nearly 60 % of the continental U.S. is now available in 1-meter resolution and this number is increasing by the month as new data is continuously made available by the USGS.
“The data is massive, it is heterogeneous, it covers multiple projection zones and it is continuously changing. Any analysis derived from the data needs to be frequently updated”, explains Morten Revsbæk, CEO and co-founder of Scalgo. “Bringing Scalgo Live to the U.S. has been a significant technological challenge. We have tuned every aspect of our technology stack to go from processing elevation data at the scale of a single European country to being able to deliver the product at a continent-scale”.
With this product launch, Scalgo’s team of world-class algorithm specialists and software engineers has set a new standard for harnessing large-scale geographical digitization to deliver simple digital tools for managing surface water and creating sustainable environments.
“This is truly the culmination of our journey so far and it opens up a whole range of new opportunities,” continues Morten. “We are grateful to the USGS for making this amazing data set available. We hope that our launch of Scalgo Live will demonstrate the great value that this data can create for engineers and communities across the U.S.”
"Start spreading the news..."
In parallel with our efforts to develop the technological platform for launching in the U.S., we have worked diligently to establish our first U.S. office in New York City. Soon you can visit Scalgo in NewLab in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
"It's important for us to be present in the U.S. and start building relationships and collaborate with local stakeholders", says Helena Åström Grum, CEO for the newly established Scalgo USA, the U.S. branch of Scalgo. "We start recruiting a local team of surface water specialists this autumn to ensure that our U.S. users get the best possible service and help to get started with Scalgo Live in their work."
For everyone working with terrain and surface water
In Europe, Scalgo Live already has more than 25,000 users working with a wide range of surface water challenges.
“We recognize the urgent need for planning and implementing nature-based solutions to manage surface water, mitigate floods, increase biodiversity, and restore our natural environments,” says Helena. “These issues are global, and in the U.S., there is also a well-documented need to better address environmental challenges in the planning. For example, recent estimates indicate that flooding costs the U.S. between 179.8 and 496 billion dollars each year.”
In Scalgo Live, users can quickly explore flood-prone areas and various surface water characteristics and start experimenting with solutions – from the catchment scale down to small local measures. Because calculations are immediate and take place entirely within Scalgo Live, and due to effective visualizations, multiple design ideas can be discussed among stakeholders from the earliest project phases.

“Scalgo Live is an excellent starting point for any project where terrain and surface water are involved,” continues Helena. “Our users include municipal and county planners, engineers in consultancies and water utilities, landscape architects, environmental specialists, and many more. I look forward to introducing Scalgo Live across the U.S. and learning more about how we can enhance our digital platform for surface water planning.”
